Bunny lines are the fine lines that become visible on either side of the nose when you scrunch your nose, for example when laughing or frowning. These lines are caused by repeated contraction of the nasalis muscle, which is responsible for these movements. A Botox treatment relaxes this muscle, reducing or eliminating the lines.
Bunny lines are often associated with ageing or frequent use of facial muscles. When these lines remain visible at rest, this can be bothersome or cause less smooth skin around the nose. Bunny lines can also become more prominent after previous Botox treatments elsewhere on the face, as other muscles may become more activated.
The treatment
During a consultation, we discuss whether this treatment is suitable for your situation. The physician places 1-2 small injections on either side of the nose to relax the nasalis muscle. The injections are strategically placed to ensure a natural result. The treatment is quick and relatively painless, usually completed within 10 minutes.
Within 3 to 5 days the first effect becomes visible, and after approximately 2 weeks the full result can be seen. The results last for approximately 3 to 4 months; this varies per person. Regular repeat treatments are recommended to maintain the effect. At Noveve Aesthetics, we focus on natural results to prevent an expressionless face. We always start with the minimum dosage and adjust after two weeks if necessary.
Safety
Botox treatments are generally very safe but may have some side effects such as bruising, swelling or redness. Rare complications include facial asymmetry, infection and a crooked smile. In very rare cases, botox may spread to other parts of the face or an allergic reaction may occur.
Before a botox treatment, it is important to avoid blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, for several days to minimise bruising. Always consult a physician before stopping such medication. After the treatment, we recommend not touching the treated area and not lying flat for the first 4 to 6 hours. This prevents the botox from migrating to surrounding muscles. It is also advised to avoid physical exertion for the first 24 hours, as well as sunbeds and saunas. Always follow the specific instructions from the physician for optimal results and recovery.
