Two approaches, one goal

Under-eye bags and dark circles can be addressed with various treatments. Two commonly used options are tear trough filler and polynucleotides (also known as Ami Eyes). Both target the eye area, but the method and type of result differ significantly. In this article, we place both treatments side by side, so you get a clear picture of what to expect.

What is tear trough filler?

Tear trough filler is a treatment in which hyaluronic acid is injected into the hollow beneath the eye, the so-called tear trough. This hollow develops due to volume loss: the fat tissue and bone volume around the eye socket decrease as you age, causing a shadow or sunken line to become visible.

By filling the tear trough with a lightweight hyaluronic acid filler, the transition between the lower eyelid and cheek becomes softer again. The result is immediately visible after the treatment. The under-eye bag becomes less deep, the shadow disappears and the face looks fresher. The effect lasts an average of 9 to 12 months.

The tear trough is a very delicate zone. The skin is thin, many blood vessels run through the area and the margin for incorrectly placed product is small. It requires an experienced physician who works precisely with small amounts.

What are polynucleotides (Ami Eyes)?

Ami Eyes is a treatment based on polynucleotides, fragments of DNA that stimulate skin cells to produce more collagen and elastin. Unlike filler, no volume is added. The product improves skin quality from within: the skin becomes firmer, better hydrated and more elastic.

The result gradually builds over two to four weeks after treatment. Dark circles caused by thin, transparent skin can diminish as a result. The skin looks healthier and fuller without any filling involved. The effect lasts an average of 6 to 9 months.

Ami Eyes is a safe treatment for the eye area. Because no volume is added, the risk of irregularities or lumpiness is minimal.

When to choose tear trough filler?

  • You have clear volume loss in the tear trough with a visible hollow or shadow
  • You want immediate results in one session
  • The dark circles are primarily caused by a deep-set tear trough, not by thin skin
  • You have sufficient skin quality in the eye area for a filler

When to choose polynucleotides?

  • The dark circles are caused by thin, transparent skin rather than volume loss
  • You want to improve skin quality around the eyes without adding volume
  • You are looking for a preventive treatment to maintain the skin around the eyes in good condition
  • You prefer a gradual, naturally building result

Can they be combined?

In many cases, tear trough filler and polynucleotides deliver the best result when combined. The filler restores volume in the hollow, while the polynucleotides improve skin quality. Together, they address both the structural and superficial causes of under-eye bags.

Whether a combination makes sense in your case depends on the specific situation. During a consultation at Noveve, we carefully assess the eye area. We examine whether there is volume loss, skin quality loss or a combination of both, and advise accordingly which treatment or combination is most suitable.
