What does the treatment involve?

Drooping mouth corners are caused by the muscles that pull the mouth corners downward remaining continuously contracted. By treating these muscles with Botox, they relax and the mouth corners are subtly lifted. This creates a fresher yet natural appearance of the mouth.

As we age, our mouth corners can begin to droop, which can cause a sombre facial expression. When you frequently receive the question whether you are tired, sad or angry when you are not, this can be very annoying. If you experience this, we can effectively treat it with botox. It is important to note that overactive muscles are often not the only cause of drooping mouth corners. A combination of factors such as reduced skin firmness and volume loss also play a major role. For the most optimal result, a combination of treatments may be necessary. The physician will advise you personally on this.

What does the treatment look like?

Prior to the treatment, an extensive consultation takes place in which we discuss your wishes, expectations and risks of the treatment. The physician places 2-4 injections at specific points in the DAO muscles. This will prevent them from contracting and they will subsequently relax. The mouth corners are thereby subtly lifted.

Results of the treatment

Within 3 to 5 days the first effect becomes visible, and after approximately 2 weeks the full result can be seen. The results last for approximately 3 to 4 months; this varies per person. Regular repeat treatments are recommended to maintain the effect. At Noveve, we focus on natural results to prevent an expressionless face. Safety, risks and possible complications

Botox treatments are generally very safe but may have some side effects such as bruising, swelling or redness. Rare complications include facial asymmetry, infection and a crooked smile. In very rare cases, botox may spread to other parts of the face or an allergic reaction may occur. With this treatment, it is specifically important to note that if the Botox reaches one of the surrounding muscles, the mouth may be more difficult to open and the smile may be temporarily asymmetrical.

Pre- and aftercare

Before a botox treatment, it is important to avoid blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, for several days to minimise bruising. Always consult a physician before stopping such medication. After the treatment, we recommend not touching the treated area and not lying flat for the first 4 to 6 hours. This prevents the botox from migrating to surrounding muscles. It is also advised to avoid physical exertion for the first 24 hours, as well as sunbeds and saunas. Always follow the specific instructions from the physician for optimal results and recovery.
