Two popular treatments for the lips
Lip filler and a lip flip are both treatments that improve the appearance of the lips, but they work in a fundamentally different way. Lip filler adds volume with hyaluronic acid, while a lip flip gently curls the upper lip outward using Botox. The difference in approach leads to a different result, a different treatment duration and a different price point. In this article, we place both treatments side by side.

What is lip filler?
In a lip filler treatment, hyaluronic acid is injected into the lips to add volume, shape and definition. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and attracts moisture, making the lips feel fuller and more hydrated. Depending on the technique and amount of product, the result can range from a subtle volume boost to a noticeable shape change.
The result is immediately visible after the treatment, although the final shape may take up to two weeks due to swelling. Lip filler lasts an average of 9 to 12 months, depending on the product and individual factors such as metabolism.

What is a lip flip?
A lip flip is a treatment in which a small amount of Botox is injected into the orbicularis oris, the muscle around the mouth. By slightly relaxing this muscle, the upper lip curls slightly outward, making more of the vermilion visible. No volume is added; the effect is purely the relaxation of the muscle.
The result is subtle and looks very natural. A lip flip is particularly suitable if your upper lip tucks inward when smiling or if you want a slightly fuller appearance without filler. The effect is visible after approximately 5 to 7 days and lasts an average of 2 to 3 months.
