Lip Fillers
What is the Russian lip technique?
With the Russian lip technique, hyaluronic acid is injected vertically into the lip, in small amounts distributed across multiple injection points along the lip line and in the vermilion. Due to the vertical placement, the lip is lifted upward rather than pushed forward. The result is a lip with more height, a more sharply defined cupid's bow and a flatter, tighter shape. The technique is more complex than classic lip filler and requires precision in both injection placement and the amount of product per point.
How the technique works
- The lip is divided into multiple zones, each with its own injection point along the lip line and in the central lip body.
- The hyaluronic acid is injected vertically, causing the lip to be lifted rather than pushed forward.
- By precisely distributing small amounts per point, an even, controlled shape is created with a sharply defined cupid's bow.
Difference from classic lip filler
With the classic technique, the filler is placed parallel to the lip, distributing volume evenly across the lip. This creates a full, soft lip that follows the existing shape and projects forward. The Russian technique differs from this classic approach in several ways.
An important difference also lies in the recovery time: due to the greater number of injection points and the vertical placement, swelling after a Russian lip treatment can be slightly more pronounced than after a classic lip filler. This typically subsides within a few days to two weeks, after which the final result becomes visible.
Who is the Russian lip technique suitable for?
The choice of a specific lip technique depends on the natural lip shape, the desired outcome and the facial structure as a whole. The Russian technique is best suited to certain situations and wishes. The Russian lip technique requires precision and experience. The correct injection site, depth and amount of product per injection are decisive for the final result. Good preparation always begins with a thorough consultation.
Examples of situations where the Russian technique can be used:
- Little definition of the lip line: Those with an unclear or poorly defined cupid's bow can achieve more contour and lift in the upper lip with the Russian technique.
- Desire for more lift without too much volume: For those who want the lips to appear larger without them protruding forward, the vertical lifting effect offers an alternative to classic volume addition.
- Asymmetry of the lip shape: Because the filler is precisely placed per zone, the technique offers more control over distribution and asymmetry can be specifically corrected.
- Preference for a contoured, tight appearance: The Russian technique lends itself to those who want a lip that looks tightly defined, with a visible heart shape and sharp contours.
The Russian technique is less suitable when the primary goal is a soft, fuller lip that follows the existing shape. Also, for lips that already have a lot of projection or for a facial structure where extra height would visually be out of proportion, the classic technique may be a better choice. During the consultation, we assess the lip shape and discuss which approach aligns with your wishes and facial features.
