Muscle relaxants
This treatment targets the large jaw muscles, also known as the masseter muscles. In some cases, these muscles are overactive, leading to teeth grinding or jaw clenching. This can occur both during the day and at night, meaning you are not always aware of it. Through a Botox treatment, the jaw muscles are relaxed and teeth grinding is counteracted.
Teeth grinding can have adverse effects on your teeth, as teeth and molars can become damaged, or it can cause persistently fatigued jaw muscles. Additionally, this treatment is also used to make the face appear slimmer, also known as face slimming. In this case, prominent jaw muscles create an angular face. By removing the tension, the volume of the jaw muscles decreases somewhat, making the face appear subtly slimmer.
The treatment
Prior to the treatment, a comprehensive consultation takes place in which we discuss your wishes, expectations and risks of the treatment. The physician places 6-8 injections at specific points in the jaw muscles, which will reduce the muscle tension. After the treatment, you may experience a muscle-ache-like sensation. This is normal and subsides within a few hours. Cooling is not necessary.
Within 3 to 5 days the first effect becomes visible, and after approximately 2 weeks the full result can be seen. The results last for approximately 4 to 6 months; this varies per person. Regular repeat treatments are recommended to maintain the effect. At Noveve Aesthetics, we focus on natural results to prevent an expressionless face. We always start with the minimum dosage and adjust after two weeks if necessary.
Safety
Botox treatments are generally very safe but may have some side effects such as bruising, swelling or redness. Rare complications include facial asymmetry, infection and a crooked smile. In very rare cases, botox may spread to other parts of the face or an allergic reaction may occur.
Before a botox treatment, it is important to avoid blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, for several days to minimise bruising. Always consult a physician before stopping such medication. After the treatment, we recommend not touching the treated area and not lying flat for the first 4 to 6 hours. This prevents the botox from migrating to surrounding muscles. It is also advised to avoid physical exertion for the first 24 hours, as well as sunbeds and saunas. Always follow the specific instructions from the physician for optimal results and recovery.

Yes, you can continue to eat and chew as normal. The botox reduces excessive muscle strength, but you retain sufficient chewing power for daily use.
The face slimming effect builds up gradually. After 2-4 weeks you will notice the first changes. The maximum result is usually visible after 6-8 weeks, when the muscles have actually decreased in volume.
The effect lasts an average of 4 to 6 months, longer than most other botox treatments. With regular repeat treatments, the result can last increasingly longer.
The treatment costs €330. This is because a higher dosage of botox is required for the large jaw muscles. The first consultation is always free.
