When other methods, such as physiotherapy or relaxation exercises, have had insufficient effect, Botox can be an effective solution.
The treatment
Prior to the treatment, an extensive consultation takes place in which we discuss your wishes, expectations and the risks of the treatment. The physician then places multiple injections at specific locations in the trapezius muscles. This ensures an even relaxation of the muscles. The treatment is virtually painless and does not require anaesthesia.
The first effects are often noticeable within 5-7 days, with maximum results after approximately 2 weeks. Patients experience relief from tension and pain, while with aesthetic treatments the shoulders appear slimmer after several weeks. The effect typically lasts 3 to 4 months, depending on muscle activity and lifestyle. Repeat treatments may be necessary to maintain the result.
Safety
Botox treatments are generally very safe but may have some side effects such as bruising, swelling or redness. Rare complications include facial asymmetry, infection and a crooked smile. In very rare cases, botox may spread to other parts of the face or an allergic reaction may occur.
Before a botox treatment, it is important to avoid blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, for several days to minimise bruising. Always consult a physician before stopping such medication. After the treatment, we recommend not touching the treated area and not lying flat for the first 4 to 6 hours. This prevents the botox from migrating to surrounding muscles. It is also advised to avoid physical exertion for the first 24 hours, as well as sunbeds and saunas. Always follow the specific instructions from the physician for optimal results and recovery.
