The treatment
Prior to the treatment, an extensive consultation takes place in which we discuss your wishes, expectations and risks of the treatment. During the treatment, multiple small injections are placed at specific points on the forehead, temples, back of the head and neck. The treatment takes approximately 15-20 minutes and is virtually painless.
The first results may be noticeable within 2 weeks, with a further decrease in headache attacks after multiple treatments. On average, the frequency of migraine attacks is reduced by 50% or more. To maintain the effect, the treatment is repeated every 3-4 months. The result varies per person, depending on the severity of the migraine. We always start with the minimum dosage and adjust after two weeks if necessary.
Safety
Botox treatments are generally very safe but may have some side effects such as bruising, swelling or redness. Rare complications include facial asymmetry, infection and a crooked smile. In very rare cases, botox may spread to other parts of the face or an allergic reaction may occur.
Before a botox treatment, it is important to avoid blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, for several days to minimise bruising. Always consult a physician before stopping such medication. After the treatment, we recommend not touching the treated area and not lying flat for the first 4 to 6 hours. This prevents the botox from migrating to surrounding muscles. It is also advised to avoid physical exertion for the first 24 hours, as well as sunbeds and saunas. Always follow the specific instructions from the physician for optimal results and recovery.
